People often ask who is behind Laayo. Here is the short answer, using only what the founder has shared publicly.

The founder#

Laayo was founded by Sakshyam Baral, a full-stack developer from Nepal. He built Laayo in Birtamod, Jhapa, as a food and grocery delivery app for his home town, and it now serves Birtamod, the towns around it in Central Jhapa, and Damak.

In his own words on his founder page: “I’m Sakshyam Baral, a full-stack developer from Nepal. Laayo is the food and grocery delivery app I founded in Birtamod, Jhapa.”

Sakshyam’s background as a developer explains a lot about how Laayo works. From the start, Laayo built its own technology instead of renting someone else’s platform: the customer app, the rider app, the partner app, the admin tools and the systems behind them. How leadership works at Laayo#

Laayo is a small, close team. Decisions are made close to the work, by people who use the app themselves and know the towns we serve. A few habits guide how we lead:

• Start with the people on the road. Riders, restaurant partners and customers tell us what is broken long before any chart does. We listen to them first.
• Build it ourselves when it matters. If something touches the order, the payment or the delivery, we want to own it and be able to fix it quickly.
• Be honest in public. We say what is live, what is rolling out and what is only a plan. Our Investors page follows the same rule.
• Grow carefully. We started small on purpose and move to new towns only when we and our partners are ready. More in We started small on purpose.
